To help get our 8th graders started we had the York County Heritage Trust come to visit. We learned a lot about the Pennsylvania Colony so the other colonies have a lot of work to do to try and convince us that Pennsylvania isn't the best colony!
Our 7th and 8th graders are gearing up to start working on their History PBL creations. Our 8th graders must go back in time to the 16th century to create a marketing campaign to convince people of Europe to settle in one of their chosen colonies. The 7th graders will create the ULTIMATE CIVILIZATION using elements from ancient civilizations. Both projects are multimedia projects that they will present to a panel made up of 3-4 teachers. They will be graded on their multimedia creation and their presentation skills. They have a lot to do before January 12th and 13th but we are confident that the students are going to knock our socks off!

The students often are aware that Creative Commons exists but they often don't know how or why to use it. So this week we took a day to show them all the tricks to Creative Commons. The goal was that each student would know how to search for media using Creative Commons, how to find and understand the copyright license on that media, and the difference between attribution and citation. Below are some screenshots that the students submitted on nearpod of the copyright licenses they found on an image they picked of a dog.
This week the 8th grade students were brushing up on their research skills and learning how web searches work. We asked them to take a term and make a poster for someone who has never even heard of the Internet before. The poster had to explain the term in their own words and had to be visually appealing. Here were some of the submissions that exceeded our expectations!
To better introduce the 7th grade students to project based learning we decided to first define what project based learning is and then compare it to the traditional learning model. This brought up a lot of good discussions and made the students even more intrigued by the History PBL.
