Here's a fabulous example of a presentation from the seventh grade history PBL that our learners recently completed. Ambulai wrote a powerful poem about how the civilization of China has changed throughout time and performed it for us:

"Forget the bacon - save your egg!" That's our eighth grade learners' motivation for the science/math PBL this marking period. They'll be designing a vehicle using the research that they've completed on vehicle safety devices with the goal of protecting an egg in the event of a crash. Here is a fun video that we created in conjunction with their science teachers to kick things off: We're excited to tell you about what's happening this marking period for all learners at CYMS. Your child's Science and Skills for Digital Age Learners classes are partnering up to begin an exploration of the impact of bacteria on our lives (7th grade) and of how physics can explain the effectiveness of car safety devices (8th grade) using PBL! You may find the attached project overview helpful in understanding what we are asking all learners to do, and in supporting your child during the project. As parents or guardians, you can discuss the project at home, encouraging your child to think hard and ask questions about the topic. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions about the project! The science/math PBL is now in full-swing! Our seventh grade learners will be focusing on bacteria, while the eighth graders are researching vehicle safety. Here's a little glimpse of the seventh grade kickoff event: Our learners have completed the history PBL with some fantastic results! This group decided to create a hand-drawn video as a visual companion to a song that they wrote about how gender roles have changed throughout history: |
