Here's a fun video that the amazing Mr. Heisey put together of both of our PBL entry events. They were so much fun, we can't wait to see what the science, math, and language arts teachers come up with in the third and fourth marking periods! Thanks Mr. Heisey and to all of the teachers at CYMS for all that you do!

A few of our SDAL teachers recently paid a visit to Penn State's "HUB", which inspired our own space at CYMS. We toured their Media Commons at Pattee Library, One Button Studio, and Krause Innovation Studio. Here are a few photos from the trip: A big thank you to Penn State University for hosting us and giving us such an inspiring and informative tour!
A great time was had by all at the eighth grade PBL History entry event! The SDAL and History teachers teamed up, with the help of students, teachers, and our very own Ms. Veit to kick off Project Based Learning in a fun and exciting way. Here are a few photos from the event: A big thank you to all who were involved!!!
We're excited to tell you about what's coming up during the second marking period for all learners at CYMS. Your child's History and Skills for Digital Age Learners classes are partnering up to begin an exploration of how ancient civilizations have changed throughout time (7th grade) and an exploration of the American identity (8th grade) using Project Based Learning! In Project Based Learning (PBL), learning is student-centered, active, and engaging. It emphasizes learning activities that are long-term, interdisciplinary, and collaborative. It will help your child develop skills in technology use, inquiry and research, teamwork and cooperation, communication, and content delivery. These skills will help your child succeed in the future, both in school and in today's work world. You may find the attached project overview helpful in understanding what we are asking all learners to do, and in supporting your child during the project. As parents or guardians, you can discuss the project at home, encouraging your child to think hard and ask questions about the topic. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions about the project! Learners in Mrs. Howell's class each explored the role that digital media plays in their life and reflected on the positive and negative impact digital media has on themselves and society. They then created similes to describe what their digital lives are like using iMovie. Here is a wonderful example of the project created by one of our seventh grade students: In Miss Eaton's class, our learners have been hard at work creating their very own children's books on internet safety using StoryBird.com or Book Creator. Here's one of our favorite examples about three adorable pups named Harold, Samquel, and Rufus: |
