Due to our curriculum being the same year after year, we have decided to no longer post to this blog. Next week, we will begin tweeting the different work that our students complete. Please follow us @CYMShub. If you have a question please feel free to contact us.
Miss Merrick, Mr. Lawson, and Miss Eaton are looking forward to starting the school year! Can't wait to share our new and fun lessons.
Check out the thinglinks below to see if the nominees you voted for won!
It has been a busy two months.
The 8th graders were challenged to write a digital story. They had the option to start from scratch or pick two stories and mash them together.
Our seventh graders were busy reviewing what was taught at the beginning of the year while challenging themselves to use the 4C's, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. They created an Informational Literacy PSA (Public Service Announcement).
If you have a few minutes, please vote by April 3rd for the nominees that are below.

Our 7th graders are in the midst of planning a Public Service Announcement in teams of 1-3 students that promote one of the topics we covered in Information Literacy so far this year. Some of the topics include promoting a better digital balance to prevent internet addiction, encouraging and informing people on how to create better passwords, and endorsing the use of other search engines besides google to improve student research. The students are very excited to get the chance to create their first project this year and we are excited to see what the 7th graders bring to the table! Stay tuned for student PSA examples.
8th grade is hard at work on turning their stories into a video production! Before they start recording, they must first plan out their video scene by scene. They are to include which two apps they are smashing together, scene descriptions/dialogue, and visual representations of their scenes. Here are some of the submissions we received. These storyboards make me believe we are going to have some very entertaining videos to watch soon!
The 8th grade class was introduced to their first project which is Digital Storytelling! In collaborative groups they will plan, write, and produce a film that tells their creative story. They first had to complete mini lessons on the different story elements, so that they could use the story elements effectively in their own writing. Below were some of the different assignments they completed on characterization, setting, plot elements, conflict, and theme!
Our 7th graders are currently learning more about our online world and search engines in order to better understand how to effectively search the web and find good resources. To start our unit we needed to make sure they understood the basic Internet terms. The 7th graders made posters to show their understanding of these terms. Below are some of submissions we received!
To wrap up our Media Literacy curriculum, 8th graders were given a task to create an infographic on one of the topics covered this semester. Infographics are just like they sound, informational graphics. They are visually appealing ways to give people "shorten" versions of research papers. Here are a few of our exceptional infographic submissions!
Seventh Grade learners are focusing on "Digital Law" in November. They are learning to not only become respectful of creative works they find online, but will also feel inspired to make and share their own work online. To start, students learned the terms copyright, public domain, and fair use. They also learned how to use Creative Commons, a place to help student find copyright friendly photos that they can use for school projects. You can see an example of this lesson below. Students have begun to learn how to use Soundzabound and Discovery Education which are resources to help students find copyright videos and music.
